Closing Statement

144 - 109

Quick poll, who do you think scored which? Your options are the Timberwolves and the Pelicans.

Spoiler alert: The Timberwolves won

If this were the Wolves of old they would have folded like an origami flower but instead of enjoying a 50% increase in wins from last season and leave their games in the locker room they closed out with the best effort of the season and one of the best in the history of the franchise.

Shooting 65% with other 46% from 3 and 82% from the line. yeah, they were on fire.

The negatives will point to the fact that New Orleans is little more then a D-league team at this point but they hammered them in a way that they have not done all season and good to great teams win games emphatically that they are supposed to beat.

But as per usual, more after the jump
It's possible that collectively the players just wanted to end on a high note. And it was a HIGH note but there is also the fact that earlier in the day it was announced that Sam Mitchell would not be automatically returning next season.

A statistically dominant night may be in celebration of that or a statement that they want him back. It could vary player by player and I don't know how NBA players think about such things but as a team it was an impressive closing statement on the season.

And as I mentioned it may be the last game for Mr. Mitchell on the bench. I'm split on the fact that he may not be back. Should it be an automatic situation? No, not with the way the season went and with the way that he got the job. But as other members of media have said it's the coaches job for the team to make progress and the team did do that, evident by a 15 - 17 record to close out the season.

Consistency could be good or could be detrimental. Again, I don't know how the players are thinking about it. This team should have no trouble finding another coach or maybe they will keep Mitchell after interviews happen but I think I like the fact that they are going with the aggressive approach with the young team.

My closing statement on the team this season is that they need to bring in at least 3 competent players. They need to find the right coach. The coach needs to be able to coach up the defense and hopefully they can bring in a defensive stopper type guy. Three point shooting and defense, fix those and we make the playoffs next season.

Newsflash, ESPN just allowed Minnesota to be called the best team in need of a coach. That should be made into a plaque or something cause it never happens. Newsflash over.

So there it is, nothing earth shattering or overly original but just a closing statement on the year. Now one of the most important off seasons in the franchise's history begins! Get hyped Minnesota!
