The Wolf is Turning

Less then 48 hours ahead of the 2016 NBA Draft Lottery and things just keep cranking up for our favorite 15.

To the surprise of no one who was actually paying attention Karl - Anthony Towns has reportedly gotten the Rookie of the Year for the season. Days after Stephen Curry just went unanimous for the MVP I'm curious how many votes KAT got for ROY. In any case, it's like breaking news that's only sort of breaking news.

He was the best rookie all year and only got better as the season progressed. It wasn't even really that close between him and Porzingis, even with KP playing in NYC and the East Coast bias. ESPN silently acknowledged it by not covering Porzingis much more then it did KAT, which is to say it gave like no coverage to either since it just generally tries to ignore Twin City teams.

It's been 12 months of history making for the Timberwolves which I'll hit on and more after a second.
Obviously the first history was made nearly 1 year ago when our squad got the first #1 overall pick in franchise history. Coming off having Wiggins as the ROY 14 - 15 it was great news. Made even better by the fact that they made the right selection.

The last time a franchise had consecutive rookie of the years was the Buffalo Braves. If there's a collective "who?!" I'm right there with you but facts are facts. That happened back in the mid 70's. A 40 year drought snapped by the Timberwolves. Positive history made by these kids just doesn't happen, yet it did so let's celebrate that.

But that's not the only positive history they've made recently. Lets take a flashback a few weeks to one of the last games of the season. They beat the oft victorious Golden State Warriors. Handing them their last loss the season in fact. Positive history!

Yet there's more still. When the season wrapped and the decision came down to replace the coach it seemed to be a scrum by basically everybody to get the job here. Let's take a second to remember Flip and how he set up this franchise for the future. He will be appreciated for years for bringing in such high level talent in the door during his last days.

But the replacement to Sam was brought in. To my thinking Glen Taylor brought in the right guy. Thibs will take what is good and make it better. I can only hope that he will bench players who won't play a high enough level of defense to satisfy him.

To recap, #1 pick. Consecutive ROY's. Thibs.

The next thing that needs to get crossed off the list is that pesky playoff drought. I want it next season but would settle for the second .500 or better season since the last playoff appearance. Yeah, it's been a rough stretch as a basketball fan.

But the worm...the wolf is turning ladies and gentlemen. We got a squad getting built here ya'll. I for one can't wait to start pushing people off the bandwagon cause I've been on here for years and it'll fill up quick.

Now we just need to wait a few more hours and we'll find out where the next addition will be drafted for our squad. See you in a few days folks!
