Vikings Draft - Stage 1

Last night I went off about a couple NBA draft prospect that I want to see added to the Timberwolves. Well now I'm going to go deep on the NFL draft.

I'm going to go from the bottom to the top and layout which positions I'd like to see addressed with each pick. To stretch the topic out, I'm also going to space it out over the next five weeks.

There's no way to know what Trader Rick will do as far as trades go so I'm just going to ignore the possibility...certainty... of a trade happening. We have 8 picks as of now. Today I'll do the bottom 2 picks. Then move up by 2 for the next 2 times, finishing up with the top 2 picks as individual sets.

I don't plan on pin pointing any certain player for each pick but more so a position that could use bolstering.

So here goes, our 7th round pick, number 212 overall should be a....

Find out after the break!

#244

7th round picks are not much more then undrafted players who teams don't want other teams to get a shot at. Yeah, that's describes the draft as a whole but I think is most accurate to the last round. Any position could bare a hit but it is still rare for 7th rounders to be hall of fame or even regular pro bowl caliber players.

So what group should they take a flier on?

With number 244 I would like to see the Vikings pick a defensive lineman. There are still plenty of thin areas on this team - Corner, Safety, Wide Receiver, Linebacker and maybe offensive line, but with Zimmer running the show and having the double A gap blitz, defensive linemen are key. Also, the GM has hit on late round linemen in the past and word has it that this is a deep draft for D-line so bringing in as many possibilities seems like a successful strategy.

Moving on up, the Vikings next pick is just a few spots earlier - number 240.

Having picks that close together gives the team the flexibility to control the draft at that point, whatever it's worth since they are such late picks.

So what group do I think they should target at 240? As I see it, receiver would be a great position to address at this point. I know that they have Adam Theielen, Stefon Diggs, Jarius Wright, Charles Johnson and technically Cordarrelle Patterson but none of them are of the AJ Green, Dez Bryant or Julio Jones ilk. I like AT, SD & JW. CJ should be allowed to come into camp to compete for a spot and CP can be a returner, if the team wants him back for that but we need to find a clear #1 receiver.

Will that happen in the 7th round? Probably not but creating as many opportunities to find one should be one of the top priorities, especially as far as the offense goes!

So a defensive lineman and a receiver in the 7th round. What do you think of those possibilities? Hit me back in the comments!
